Kobe Port Earthquake Memorial Park is located at the eastern end of Meriken Park. It is a free outdoor memorial that preserves 60 meters of the damaged quay and allows visitors to learn about the reconstruction through photos and videos. It is a popular walking spot for tourists in Kobe.
This outdoor exhibition area preserves approximately 60 meters of the Meriken Wharf quay, which collapsed in the 1995 Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, for future generations. Experience the damage to the port and its recovery process through damaged light poles, tilted seawalls, and photographs and explanatory panels from that time. Located on the waterfront of Meriken Park, home to Kobe Port Tower and the BE KOBE Monument, it's a convenient stop-off point during a waterfront stroll.

In 2025, marking the 30th anniversary of the disaster, the exhibition will be completely renovated. In addition to large multilingual monitors and new panels providing an overview of the disaster, the exhibition will also feature a "Memory Wall" signage and an augmented reality (AR) "Time Scope," making it easier for first-time visitors to understand. The tranquil seascape surrounding the area is increasingly being reevaluated as an "open space of remembrance" that combines education and remembrance.

Access is within walking distance of Sannomiya and Motomachi. It's about a 5-minute walk from Minato Motomachi Station on the Kaigan Subway Line, about 15 minutes from Motomachi Station on all lines, and the Port Loop's Meriken Park stop is also nearby. The surrounding area is lined with harbor walking paths and grassy areas, and you can take impressive photos with the blue sky and sea breeze during the day, and the harbor lights in the evening. As it is an outdoor facility, it is recommended that you dress appropriately for the weather.
