On the first day, votive fireworks are launched (usually around 8:00 PM), and food stalls line the streets, creating a festive atmosphere. While the bridge is open from early morning until late at night, it tends to get crowded in the mornings and evenings, so visiting during the day is recommended. The arching bridge and the silhouette of the small island seen from the opposite shore are a scenic sight, earning it the nickname "Shikoku's Enoshima." JR operates a temporary Tsushimanomiya Station for these two days only, making the shrine popular among train enthusiasts.
The shrine's enshrined deity is Susanoo-no-Mikoto. The shrine grounds also offer special stamps and gifts exclusive to the summer festival, making it the perfect place for families to pray for protection from evil and growth.
[Useful Information]
The main shrine is open to visitors only on August 4th and 5th each year, during the annual summer festival. On other days, the fence and the boards underneath are removed, making it impossible to cross.
The bridge fee during the Summer Festival is 500 yen for adults, 200 yen for elementary school students, and free for infants.
[Business Hours]
Visiting hours during the Summer Festival are 6:00 AM - 10:00 PM each day.
On the first day, a fireworks display is scheduled for around 8:00 PM.
[Closed Days]
Open daily (main shrine visits are only available on August 4th and 5th. Visitors can visit the worship hall on the opposite bank year-round).
[Parking]
Temporary parking is available nearby. Depending on the location, you may need to walk 1-2 km or more.
[Access]
Train: During the Summer Festival, get off at Tsushimanomiya Station on the JR Yosan Line (open for two days only).
Car: Approximately 10 minutes from Mitoyo Torisaka IC on the Takamatsu Expressway.
