Tsushima Shrine is a small shrine on an island in the Seto Inland Sea. Only two days a year can visitors enter the main shrine via a bridge, making it a sacred place in Mitoyo known for its guardian deity of children and its breathtaking views.
The main shrine is located on a small island about 250 meters offshore. Since the Edo period, it has been worshipped as a guardian deity of children, and a remote worship hall has been set up on the opposite shore, where worshippers can visit year-round. The shrine's greatest attraction is the annual summer festival on August 4th and 5th. A special bridge spans the sea, allowing visitors to walk to the main shrine while admiring the Seto Inland Sea's numerous islands. This special experience is only available two days a year. After sunset, lights illuminate the water, creating a mystical atmosphere for photos, adding to its popularity.

On the first day, votive fireworks are launched (usually around 8:00 PM), and food stalls line the streets, creating a festive atmosphere. While the bridge is open from early morning until late at night, it tends to get crowded in the mornings and evenings, so visiting during the day is recommended. The arching bridge and the silhouette of the small island seen from the opposite shore are a scenic sight, earning it the nickname "Shikoku's Enoshima." JR operates a temporary Tsushimanomiya Station for these two days only, making the shrine popular among train enthusiasts.

The shrine's enshrined deity is Susanoo-no-Mikoto. The shrine grounds also offer special stamps and gifts exclusive to the summer festival, making it the perfect place for families to pray for protection from evil and growth.
