Nakanoshima Park is a waterside oasis in the heart of Osaka. It is a popular tourist spot with a rose garden and rows of stately modern architecture, where you can enjoy the night view, strolls, and river tours all at once.
Opened in 1891, Nakanoshima Park is Osaka's oldest park. Located on a long, narrow island spanning approximately 1.5 km and 11.3 hectares between the Dojima River and the Tosabori River, the red-brick Osaka City Central Public Hall and Osaka Prefectural Nakanoshima Library stand out against the city skyline, creating a captivating landscape interwoven with greenery. The Nakanoshima Greenway, dotted with sculptures, stretches approximately 400 m from Yodoyabashi to Higobashi, making it the perfect spot for a stroll around the museums and architecture while taking a break on one of the benches. The park also has a gift shop, making it a great base for strolling and enjoying the river breeze.

The highlight of the park is the Nakanoshima Park Rose Garden. Approximately 3,700 roses of approximately 310 varieties are in full bloom in spring and autumn, allowing you to be enveloped in color and fragrance even in the heart of the city. Since the park is open year-round, you can enjoy the soft morning and evening light, as well as the photogenic rose view against the night sky. Events such as the Rose Festival are held every May, creating seasonal displays befitting Osaka, the city on water.

Near the eastern end is the Museum of Oriental Ceramics, Osaka, which was renovated in 2024, and to the north is the Osaka Central Public Hall, among other cultural facilities. If you want to see it from the river, we recommend taking the Aqua-Liner water bus, which takes you around Hachikenyahama Pier and the area around the public hall. At night, the Nakanoshima area is the site of the winter illuminations "Osaka Feast of Light (OSAKA Hikari Renaissance)," which illuminates the public hall in a fantastical display of light and water.
