The roadside station "Gaisen Sakura Shinjojuku" in Shinjo Village, Maniwa District, Okayama Prefecture, is surrounded by one of the largest primeval beech forests in Western Japan and is surrounded by nature. It is a perfect place to take a break during a drive or look for souvenirs, as it stocks locally grown highland vegetables and processed products made with the traditional rice cake "Hime no Mochi."
Roadside Station Gaisen Sakura Shinjojuku was originally opened as "Roadside Station Marchen no Sato Shinjo" in 1995, and was completely renovated and renamed in 2018. It is located at the entrance to Shinjo Village, about 40 minutes by car from Ochiai IC on the Chugoku Expressway via National Route 181. The Village Market, a direct sales store within the facility, offers fresh highland vegetables and wild plants, pickles made by local farmers, and specialty products that can only be found here, such as daifuku and soba cookies made with Himeno Mochi, one of the best glutinous rice in Japan. With the village's atmospheric beech forest as a backdrop, you can enjoy shopping while feeling the nature of the four seasons.

The attached Village Restaurant offers set meals and hand-made soba noodles made with ingredients from Shinjo Village, as well as healthy lunch menus made with plenty of locally grown vegetables. The beef mochi rice bowl made with Himeno Mochi and the seasonal wild vegetable set meal are particularly popular. The interior of the store is a relaxing space where you can feel the warmth of wood, and on sunny days you can sit on the terrace. There is a take-out corner next to the direct sales store, where they sell local bread and baked goods, making it the perfect accompaniment for a drive. In addition, at the tourist information corner next to the store, you can get tourist information on hiking routes in the beech forests of Mt. Kenashi around Shinjo Village, as well as tourist destinations such as the Hiruzen Plateau and Okutsu Onsen.
