Okazaki Shrine in Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City, is a historic shrine founded as a shrine to worship the direction of the rabbit, based on the belief in the four gods that protect the east of Heian-kyo. The main deity is Susanoo-no-Mikoto, the secondary deities are Kushiinadahime-no-Mikoto, and the eight gods of the rabbit, three daughters and five sons, are enshrined. The shrine is said to grant fertility, safe childbirth, matchmaking, and protection from evil, and is especially worshiped by couples and visitors praying for children.

The shrine grounds are dotted with unique "koma-usagi" (guardian lion-rabbit) statues, and a "child-granting rabbit statue" that makes a black rabbit appear when you pour water over it with a wish, soothing visitors.

The rabbit fortune-telling slips and votive plaques are also popular on social media as photogenic items. It is a hidden gem that can easily be combined with a stroll through the Higashiyama area, and the spacious grounds offer both healing and blessings.
