The Gokei River, which spreads across the Makitani River, a tributary of the Takahashi River, is a nationally designated scenic spot that is attractive for its beautiful valley woven with oddly shaped rocks and huge boulders. The autumn foliage is particularly spectacular, and the area is known as one of the most scenic spots in the Chugoku region.
Gokei is a beautiful valley made up of strangely shaped rocks and huge boulders formed by the erosion of granite, and clear streams. The fresh greenery in spring, the clear streams in summer, and especially the autumn leaves in autumn are stunningly beautiful, and it is known as a famous spot for autumn leaves not only in Okayama Prefecture but also in the Chugoku region. There is a promenade along the valley, and each strangely shaped rock has a name, so you can enjoy the scenery while strolling. You will never get tired of looking at the unique shapes of the Byobu Rock, Ken Rock, and Rakan Rock. The water is also very clear, and you can feel the breath of nature while listening to the murmuring of the clear stream.

The best time to see the autumn leaves is usually from early to mid-November, when maples and sumac trees turn red, yellow, and orange, and the entire valley is enveloped in beauty like a nishikie painting. During this time, many tourists visit the valley, bustling with people trying to capture the magnificent scenery on camera. There is also an observation deck in the valley, where you can look down on the magnificent beauty of natural formations. This is the perfect place for those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, refresh their body and mind, and experience the majesty of nature.

The main photo was taken before mid-November. The following were taken when we visited in July.
