The Kawaratei Museum in Mito, Okayama City, is a nationally registered tangible cultural property that is open to the public as the residence of a village headman from the late Edo period. The thatched roof main house, detached rooms, storehouse, and other buildings remain, allowing visitors to experience what life was like at the time.
The Kawara Residence was built in 1839 during the late Edo period and is the residence of the Kawara family, who served as the headman of the Okayama Domain. It is an old house that has continued since the end of the Sengoku period, and is a designated important cultural property of Okayama City as a valuable relic that conveys the architectural style and lifestyle of the time. The vast grounds are centered around the main house with a heavy thatched roof, and two detached rooms, a long-house gate, and several storehouses remain. Inside the house, daily utensils that convey the way of life at that time are exhibited, making you feel as if you have traveled back in time.

It has been maintained as a museum and is used as a place to rediscover history, to pass on traditional culture, and to create new intellectual products, learn, and exchange. In particular, at the back of the three-room adjacent rooms in the main house, there are sliding door paintings by the Kano school, which recall the prosperity of the time. From Friday to Sunday lunchtime, part of the facility is used as the "Sabo Kawara Residence," and you can use it just for meals. It is a space where you can relax and enjoy the atmosphere of an old-fashioned house.
