Shimane Prefectural Shimane Aquarium Aquas is one of the largest aquariums in the Chugoku and Shikoku regions. It is a popular spot where you can experience the charms of the only beluga whale in western Japan and other creatures of the Sea of Japan, and learn about them in a fun way.
Shimane Aquatic Center Aquas is located in Shimane Prefectural Iwami Seaside Park, which has a beautiful coastline, and will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2025. The center displays 400 types and 10,000 marine creatures, with various themes and elaborate exhibits. In particular, the beluga whales, the only ones kept in captivity in western Japan, attract visitors with their cute appearance and their performance of making circles underwater with the "Bubble Ring of Happiness". In 2022, projection mapping will be introduced and the center will be renovated as "Light Falling Aquas", allowing visitors to encounter creatures in a more fantastical space.

In addition to the beluga whales, the highlights include the "Penguin House" where you can see penguins swimming as if they are flying in the sky, and the "Undersea Tunnel" that passes through the "Mythical Sea" zone, which is themed on the crocodile (shark) that appears in the myth "The White Rabbit of Inaba". In the touch pool, you can actually touch marine creatures, which is very popular with children. There are also plenty of experience programs available, such as backyard tours, where you can see behind the scenes of the aquarium and listen to the keepers' stories, allowing you to learn more about marine life.

In addition to the aquarium, there is also a huge athletic facility that you can play on for free, and the slide is fun for both children and adults.

Also, although you can't swim at the coast, there is a beautiful white sandy beach.

It's a great place to visit as a date spot for families with children and couples.
