In a castle town that flourished in Bitchu Matsuyama during the Edo period, the samurai residences of the former Orii and Hanihara families are open to the public for a fee.
Located at the southern foot of Mount Gagyu, this samurai town remains below Bitchu Matsuyama Castle. Earthen walls and formal gates line both sides of the street, and the Edo townscape still lingers today. The area has been designated a "Hometown Village" by Okayama Prefecture and is also protected by the national government as a Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings.

The centerpiece of the tour is the former Orii and Hanihara residences, both open to the public. Exhibits include the shoin-style main house and rowhouse gate, as well as weapons and everyday items from the period, allowing you to experience the samurai lifestyle in a tangible way. The tatami rooms and earthen floors facing the garden are also highlights, and photographers will find the continuous rowhouse gates and angles through the stone walls to be particularly photogenic.

However, while the street's exterior walls are charming, the buildings inside are more typical residential buildings.

Nearby is Raikyu-ji Temple Garden, famous for its dry landscape garden.

The area leading up to the Takahashi City Tourist Parking Lot is not as concentrated as the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter, but old castle town buildings and reconstructed buildings remain here and there.

Free parking is available in front of the Former Orii Family Samurai Residence on the north side of the street.
