Karakama Shrine is a secluded shrine famous for praying for fertility and safe childbirth, where you pass through a 45cm wide cleft in the rock, which is likened to the birth canal. It is a power spot in Izumo, with moss-covered stone steps and huge rocks.
Located in the mountains of Karakawa-cho, Izumo City, Karakama Shrine is an ancient shrine dedicated to Susanoo-no-Mikoto. The shrine's name is said to derive from the ancient iron-making furnace "kamado," and local legends related to tatara iron-making remain. The giant rock formation "Iwafune" near the torii gate is a scenic spot symbolizing the mythical tradition of the arrival of foreigners. Though located in a quiet mountain village, the shrine is enveloped in a unique atmosphere where myth and memories of metal culture overlap.

The approach to the shrine is a "training path" of steep stone steps and mountain paths. At the end of the path, you pass through a roughly 45cm-wide cleft in the rock called "Iwa-kuguri," a power spot known for its rite of passage, likened to the birth canal, and its blessings for fertility and safe childbirth. If you're worried about passing through, please refrain from forcing yourself and instead pray at the worship hall (remote worship site) at the base of the shrine. It has long been said that "by praying at the village worship hall, you will receive the same divine blessings as at the main shrine on the mountain."

There is a parking lot, but it is unpaved and can only accommodate a few cars.

[Useful Concerns]
- It is located deep in the mountains, and requires a climb of about 800 meters of steep slopes and stairs. It takes several tens of minutes to climb even steeper stairs, so physical strength is required.
- When accessing by car, caution is advised for large vehicles as there are narrow sections of the road.
