The Marunouchi Building of Tokyo Station is the gateway to Japan, restored to its original appearance after about 100 years. Experience the architectural beauty that combines history and beauty.
The Marunouchi Station Building of Tokyo Station, located in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo, is a representative terminal station in Japan that opened in 1914 (Taisho 3). The magnificent red brick station building, designed by architect Tatsuno Kingo, was partially burned down in an air raid in 1945, but was restored to its original appearance in 2012. It is currently designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan, and its solid and beautiful exterior has become a landmark that attracts many tourists. In particular, the intricate decorations inside the domes arranged on the north and south sides are a must-see.

The dome ceiling of the station building is decorated with reliefs of the twelve Chinese zodiac signs and a motif of a brave eagle, and when you look up, you will be overwhelmed by the intricate design. In addition, the "Marunouchi Station Square" that spreads out in front of the station building is an open space with rows of zelkova trees and grass, and is a great spot for taking photos of the entire station building. It is beautifully lit up at night, creating a fantastic atmosphere different from the daytime, making it a popular date spot.

Tokyo Station is no longer just a transportation hub, but has also evolved into a complex where you can enjoy shopping, gourmet food, and art. There are various stores, museums, and hotels inside and around the station, so visitors will never get bored. Experience the charm of Japan's gateway at Tokyo Station, where history and modernity blend together.

[Trivia]
When the Marunouchi Station building of Tokyo Station was first built, it was three stories tall, but the roof and third floor were burned down in an air raid during the Pacific War, and after the war it was rebuilt as a two-story building. The current appearance is a faithful restoration of the third floor and dome roof, which had been lost for about 60 years, based on the latest technology and historical materials. In addition, the dome ceilings of the north and south domes feature reliefs of the eight zodiac signs (four of the twelve zodiac signs are omitted) that represent the eight directions of Japan.

[Hidden Spot Information]

There is also a free observation space at the restaurant floor "Marunouchi House" on the 7th floor of Shin-Maru Building, which is also a great spot to view the Tokyo Station building.
