Akashi Castle is located within Akashi Park. It has been selected as one of Japan's 100 most famous castles. It is a famous cherry blossom viewing spot, and you can enjoy the remaining three-story turret and stone walls, boat rides on Tsuyoshi Pond, and strolls through the gardens.
Akashi Castle, built in 1618-1619 by order of Tokugawa Hidetada, is a strategic location for the defense of the western provinces. Its sturdy, high stone walls and layout designed with combat in mind are distinctive. The three-story Tatsumi and Kun turrets remain in the corners of the main enclosure, both designated as Important Cultural Properties. While a castle tower was never built, the towers, rivaling the original, command a commanding view of the sea and the Saigoku Kaido Highway.

The Tatsumi and Kun turrets, built on the site of the main enclosure, are two of only 12 three-story turrets remaining in Japan, and are designated Important Cultural Properties.

Highlights within the park include the waterfront of Go-no-ike Pond, its rows of cherry blossoms, and the "Musashi Garden." Rowing and swan boating are popular activities at Go-no-ike Pond, offering a 360-degree view of cherry blossoms from the water in spring and stunning autumn foliage in autumn. Musashi's Garden, a replica of a feudal lord's garden, is based on the tree-lined mansion that Miyamoto Musashi, who was involved in the layout of Akashi, is said to have created. The pond and artificial hills create a serene and elegant atmosphere. Enjoy history, nature, and photogenic scenery all at once.

Known as one of Japan's Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots, the garden is bustling with visitors every year (the number of trees in the garden ranges from 1,000 to 1,400). Special openings of both turrets are held each season, and in autumn 2025, the interior of the Kun Turret will be open to the public only on weekends and holidays (10:00 AM - 4:00 PM).
