Located in front of the gates of the Inner Shrine of Ise Jingu, this alley recreates the streetscape of the Edo to Meiji periods. It is full of local flavors and souvenirs, such as Ise udon and Akafuku mochi, so you can enjoy strolling and eating your way through the area.
Okage Yokocho, located in front of the Inner Shrine of Ise, is a tourist spot that faithfully reproduces the townscape of Ise from the Edo to Meiji periods on a site of about 9,000m2, located right in front of the Inner Shrine of Ise Jingu. This alley was created as a place to convey the bustle of the "Okage Mairi" where travelers on their way to Ise would pray for safety on their journey and the fulfillment of their wishes.
Inside the alley, you will find a row of long-established and famous shops from Ise-Shima, where you can enjoy Ise's representative gourmet food to your heart's content. It is the perfect place to take a break and eat your way through the specialty "Ise udon," "Tekone sushi," fragrant "Matsusaka beef skewers," and the flagship store of the classic Ise souvenir "Akafuku mochi." There are also many shops selling traditional crafts and folk art, so you can enjoy choosing souvenirs.
In addition, the alley is home to statues of "Okage-inu" (dogs dressed as people from myths and folk tales), facilities where you can learn about the history and culture of Ise Jingu, and events such as street performances, making it more than just a commercial facility. It is a lively space where you can get a deeper feel for the history and culture of Ise by stopping by before or after your pilgrimage.
