Inuyama Castle is one of the five existing National Treasures with an existing castle tower, and is also selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Castles.
Inuyama Castle, which stands on a small hill on the banks of the Kiso River in Inuyama City, Aichi Prefecture, is a precious castle designated as a national treasure and has the oldest style of existing castle tower in Japan. Built during the Sengoku period, it has a history of being ruled by a military commander associated with Oda Nobunaga. Its graceful appearance, also known as the "White Emperor Castle," attracts visitors. From the top floor of the castle tower, a magnificent panoramic view of the leisurely flowing Kiso River and the distant Mt. Ontake and Mt. Ena spreads out, and the view is breathtaking.

The castle interior, with its steep staircases and steeply sloping wooden structure, allows you to feel the atmosphere of the time. Each floor explains the castle's defensive mechanisms, such as warrior running and stone dropping, and is full of irresistible sights for history buffs. The wood and structure of the castle tower also show the high level of architectural technology at the time and the weight of the castle's history of overcoming many wars.

Inuyama Castle is surrounded by a charming castle town where you can enjoy gourmet food and souvenir hunting. Historical buildings are also scattered around, so it is recommended to stroll through the castle town in addition to visiting the castle. The contrast between the castle and the cherry blossoms is particularly beautiful during cherry blossom season, and the area is bustling with visitors.

[Trivia]
Inuyama Castle is the only privately owned castle to be designated a national treasure. Until 2004, it was privately owned by the Naruse family, but is now owned and managed by the Inuyama Castle Hakutei Bunko Public Interest Foundation.
