It is a three-storied pagoda of Chofuku-ji Temple in Mimasaka, Okayama Prefecture. The contrast between the green of the fresh green and the vermilion of the three-storied pagoda is very beautiful.
Chofukuji Temple is an ancient temple said to have been founded by Ganjin during the Nara period. Its iconic three-story pagoda, erected in 1285 (the 8th year of the Koan era) and approximately 22 meters tall, is said to be the oldest wooden pagoda in Okayama Prefecture. Its imposing proportions and beautiful contrast of vermilion and wood make it a renowned landmark. After experiencing repeated fires, the temple was relocated in 1928, and the pagoda was moved to its current location in 1951, preserving the seasonal scenery of Makiyama.

Walking behind the three-story pagoda, you'll find Chihaya Falls, surrounded by cliffs 50 meters on both sides and a 30-meter-wide valley. The clear waterfall, approximately 17 meters long and 3 meters wide, pours from Makiyama into two streams. The shallow, wide basin and the shadows cast by the surrounding broadleaf trees are a highlight. Whether you're looking for a photogenic shot in every season, from the fresh greenery of spring, the cool summer air, the colorful autumn leaves, or the crisp winter air, you'll find it all. A dragon god is enshrined beside the waterfall, giving a sense of local faith.

The journey from the temple grounds to the waterfall feels like a hike down a short mountain path, and you can increase the variety of your composition by going around in the order of tower → waterfall → tower.
