Yusanji Temple is the oldest of the Enshu Sanzan temples, founded in 701 AD. It is said to be a "sacred mountain for the eyes" and has powers to heal eye ailments, and visitors can enjoy beautiful nature and historical buildings.
Located in Fukuroi City, Shizuoka Prefecture, Iozan Yusanji Temple is a historic temple that is said to have been founded in the Nara period. The main deity is Yakushi Nyorai, and as the "sacred mountain of the eyes," it has long been worshiped by people praying for recovery from eye diseases. The temple grounds are dotted with various cultural assets, including a three-story pagoda designated as an important cultural property by the national government, giving the temple a sense of its historical weight. In particular, during the wind chime festival, the temple grounds are decorated with colorful wind chimes, creating a fantastic atmosphere with their cool sounds.

Yusanji Temple is located in the mountains surrounded by rich nature, and shows beautiful expressions in every season. Walking along the approach to the temple, you can feel the fresh air and refresh both body and mind. There are various sights to see within the temple grounds, such as the "Hoshoden," a place of prayer for recovery from eye diseases, and the "Aburai," where Kobo Daishi is said to have prayed by burning oil. It is also known as one of the three mountains of Enshu, and it is recommended to visit it together with other temples.

This is a recommended spot for those who wish for healthy eyes, those interested in history and Buddhism, and those who want to spend some quiet time in nature. You're sure to be soothed by the beautiful scenery and sounds, especially during the wind chime festival.

The vermilion three-story pagoda from the Azuchi-Momoyama period is impressive.

The mountain gate was originally the Oteno-no-mon gate of Kakegawa Castle from the early Edo period, and was relocated there in the Meiji period.

Nearby is Kasui-sai Temple, one of the three mountains of Enshu.
