The great merits of Yokozoji Temple are its historical value and unique attractions. It is said to have been founded by Dengyo Daishi Saicho in 803, and has many Buddhist statues, paintings, and books, including those designated as important cultural properties by the government. Among them, the sokushinbutsu (relic Buddha) of Myoshinhoshi, who is said to have attained sokushinbutsu (enlightened buddhahood) about 200 years ago, is rare nationwide and leaves a strong impression on visitors.

In autumn, the trees in the temple grounds change color all at once, creating a beautiful contrast with the stately buildings, making it popular with photography enthusiasts. It is a rare opportunity to see Japanese Buddhist art and history, as well as a rare sokushinbutsu, up close in a quiet and calm environment.
