Located in Setoda on the Shimanami Kaido, this art museum exhibits the works of Japanese painter Ikuo Hirayama. You can enjoy the worldview of this painter, who loved the scenery of the Seto Inland Sea, in his hometown.
The Hirayama Ikuo Museum of Art is a museum that collects and exhibits the works of Hirayama Ikuo, a representative Japanese painter who continued to paint landscapes of the Seto Inland Sea and the route of the introduction of Buddhism. Located in Setoda, Hirayama's hometown, you can trace the evolution of his artistic career, from his early works to travel sketches and large-scale works depicting representative cultural assets. In particular, the magnificent works on the subject of the Silk Road are impressive, and you can feel a deep insight into history and culture through the paintings.

The museum building itself is characterized by an open space that incorporates the light of the Seto Inland Sea. The exhibition room has lighting calculated to make the works look their best, allowing you to carefully view each painting.
Approximately 300 works are on display, mainly Hirayama Ikuo's masterpieces.

Kosanji Temple is located on the premises just behind the museum. On the west side is the Shiomachi Shopping Street.

[Trivia]
Hirayama Ikuo experienced the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, and it is said that his strong desire to live afterwards greatly influenced his works, which have themes of Buddhism and history. His works are filled with prayers for peace.
