Located in Asa-cho, Hiroshima City, this zoo boasts one of the largest premises in western Japan. Approximately 160 species of animals are kept here, and can be observed in an environment close to their natural surroundings, and there are also plenty of animal events.
There are about 160 kinds of animals, including elephants, giraffes, cheetahs, lions, tigers, leopards, zebras, black rhinos, and chimpanzees.

The zone with giraffes and zebras is large and pleasant to look at.

Various events are held every day in the zoo where you can learn about the ecology and charm of animals. There are plenty of programs that children and adults can enjoy, such as "munching time" where you can see the animals eating, explanations by the zookeepers, and interaction experiences. In particular, when rare animals have babies, the zoo is crowded with many visitors who want to catch a glimpse of their adorable appearance.

There are playground equipment and interaction corners that elementary school children and younger can enjoy, so it is a particularly recommended spot for families with small children.
There are also squares perfect for picnics and benches where you can rest scattered throughout the zoo, so you can spend the whole day relaxing.

When I visited, it was Golden Week and there were many people, but there is a temporary parking lot in a distant place, but parking is free and the bus shuttle is also free.

[Trivia]
Asa Zoo is one of the first zoos in Japan to successfully breed red pandas. It also focuses on the conservation of endangered species, and works in cooperation with zoos in Japan and abroad.

[Hidden gem]
At the back of the zoo is Peach Park, where you can interact with small animals such as chickens and guinea pigs. It is especially recommended for families with small children.

[Useful points of concern]
The zoo is vast and hilly, so in the summer it is essential to take measures against the heat and stay hydrated. In addition, if you are using a stroller or wheelchair, we recommend that you plan your visit taking into account the slopes and distances traveled within the zoo.
