This ancient shrine is connected to the mythology of Izumo, where the legend of Yomihirasaka, which appears in the Kojiki, lives on. It is a power spot shrouded in a mystical atmosphere, known for its blessings in matchmaking and safe childbirth.
Iyajinja Shrine is a historic shrine with a history of over 1,290 years, and its name appears in the Izumo Fudoki. The main deity is Izanami, the goddess of creation. This place is deeply connected to the legend that when Izanagi, her husband, followed her to the underworld after she died, he was shocked by her changed appearance and fled back to the present world, and blocked the "Yomotsuhirasaka" slope, which is said to be the boundary between the afterlife and this world, with a large rock. The precincts are filled with a solemn atmosphere reminiscent of the world of myth, providing visitors with a mystical experience.

Izanami has been a devout believer since ancient times, as she is believed to bring good fortune in matchmaking, safe childbirth, and prosperity of descendants. For those who wish for a good marriage or for the healthy growth of their children, Iya Shrine is a sacred place where you can pray for the fulfillment of your wishes. Another distinctive feature is that the worship hall and main hall are located separately, and the main hall is built in the style of a large shrine. The architectural beauty is also a highlight, with the worship hall decorated with magnificent carvings and the main hall painted with five brilliantly colored sliding doors.

Iya Shrine is not just a place to worship, but also a place where you can come into contact with Japan's fundamental mythology and feel the romance of history.

Nearby is Yomihirasaka, which is mentioned in the Kojiki, so it is a good idea to visit both. There is also free parking at Yomihirasaka.
