Eikando Zenrinji is the head temple of the Seizan Zenrinji School of Jodo Buddhism, located in Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture. The mountain name is Shojuraigozan. The principal object of worship is Amida Nyorai. It is commonly known as Eikando. Known as a famous spot for autumn leaves, it has long been called ``Eikando of autumn leaves''. It is also one of the three Kangakuin schools in Kyoto, and has been active in learning since ancient times.
Eikando was founded in 853 by Shinjo, a disciple of Kukai. Initially, it was an esoteric Buddhism training hall, but in the Heian period Eikan chanted the Jodo Nenbutsu and became a training hall for the Nenbutsu, hence the name Eikando.

In the Eikando precincts, there are many historical buildings such as the main hall, Tahoto, Shakado, and Kaisando. In addition, various Buddha statues such as Amida Nyorai, Shaka Nyorai, and Dainichi Nyorai are enshrined in the precincts.

Eikando is a fascinating temple where you can experience history and culture. It is a recommended spot not only for those who are interested in Buddhism, but also for those who are interested in history and culture.
