Hida large limestone cave

This limestone cave is located near National Route 158, which connects Takayama City and Matsumoto City. Located at an altitude of 900m, it is known as the highest tourist limestone cave in Japan.
The Hida Great Limestone Cave was at the bottom of the sea about 250 million years ago, so fossils such as coral and shells can be seen here. It is also characterized by the large number of stalactites called helictites that are twisted from side to side.

Hida Great Limestone Cave has a tour course with a total length of about 800 meters, and you can tour the inside of the cave in about an hour.

The temperature inside the cave is 12 degrees throughout the year, so it is very cold in the summer.
