It is a chashi made by the Ainu on the Nemuro Peninsula. It has 24 historic sites and is designated as one of Japan's 100 most famous castles.
The Onnemoto Chashi Ruins are hilltop style chashi located approximately 2km from Cape Nosappu. The top of the hill was used as a flat area and surrounded by a trench.
The Onnemoto Chashi ruins are thought to have been built in the mid-17th century. At that time, there was an ongoing conflict between the Ainu people and the Japanese on the Nemuro Peninsula, and the Onnemotochashi site is thought to have played an important role as a base for the Ainu people.
