This is an A-rank Western-style lighthouse located in the northern part of Awaji Island that has high historical and cultural property value.
The surrounding area is designated as Setonaikai National Park, and you can see the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge from the lighthouse.

The history of the Esaki Lighthouse dates back to 1867, when the Tokugawa Shogunate ordered it to prepare for the opening of Hyogo Port. At that time, the Akashi Strait was a difficult place for ships to navigate, and the construction of lighthouses was essential to ensure the safety of maritime traffic.

Esaki Lighthouse is the third oldest stone lighthouse in Japan. The lighthouse, which was built using chalk stone, has a simple yet beautiful appearance, and is still in use today.
