The area around the lighthouse offers a magnificent view of the Akashi Strait. On a clear day, you can see all the way to Akashi City on the opposite shore and the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge. At dusk, the sky and sea take on a mystical hue, creating a romantic atmosphere. The lighthouse's beautiful silhouette, combined with the sunset, makes for a perfect photo opportunity.
Esaki Lighthouse is Japan's third-oldest stone lighthouse. Constructed from chalk stone, this lighthouse has a simple yet beautiful appearance and is still in use today.
[Trivia]
The history of Esaki Lighthouse dates back to 1867, when the Tokugawa Shogunate commissioned the construction of a lighthouse in preparation for the opening of Hyogo Port. At the time, the Akashi Strait was a treacherous passage for ships, and the construction of a lighthouse was essential to ensure the safety of maritime traffic.
Esaki Lighthouse was designed by Richard Henry Brunton, known as the "father of lighthouses" among Japanese lighthouses.
[Useful Concerns]
You can drive close to the lighthouse, but it is a short walk from the parking lot to the lighthouse. Additionally, as a general rule, lighthouses cannot be viewed from the interior.
