Nakijin Castle is a castle located in Nakijin Village, Okinawa Prefecture, and has been selected as one of the 100 most famous castles in Japan. In 2000, it was registered as a World Heritage Site as one of the "Gusuku Sites and Related Properties of the Kingdom of the Ryukyus," and is a valuable historical site that conveys Okinawa's history and culture to the present day.
This castle was built around the 13th century and predates the Ryukyu Kingdom.
The castle walls, which were built by skillfully utilizing the natural terrain, continue to curve, and their scale and beauty are impressive. The stone walls of Osumi and the outer enclosure are particularly impressive.
It consists of seven enclosures including the outer enclosure, and its area is almost the same size as Shuri Castle. The stone walls surrounding the castle curve in a way that skillfully utilizes the terrain, and the details of the walls are beautiful, making it one of Okinawa's most famous castles.
Today, only the castle walls and stone walls remain.
From the peak, you can enjoy a 360-degree view of the emerald-green ocean, the scattered islands, and the beautiful scenery of Nakijin Village.
