Located on the coast of Nagasaki City, this aquarium is specialized in penguins and offers educational opportunities. It is one of the world's leading aquariums, boasting nine species of penguins, a natural coastal penguin beach, and an educational program that will satisfy both adults and children.
The aquarium's circulation route takes visitors through the "Sea of Nagasaki," the jellyfish tank, and the large tank. A highlight is the opportunity to observe nine of the world's 18 penguin species at once, allowing visitors to compare the unique ecologies of penguins ranging from fairy penguins to king penguins. The exhibits are fully explained in collaboration with academic institutions.
Under the theme of "coexistence between nature and humans," visitors can learn about coexistence with the natural environment through penguins.
In the streams, ponds, wetlands, forests, grasslands, and beaches of the Nature Experience Zone, visitors can observe a diverse range of creatures, including insects, seafood, and plants, and learn about the creatures struggling to survive within the natural food chain.
In addition to the daily "Penguin Feeding Time" and commentary shows, popular experiences include the "Penguin Beach Interaction," a walk along the natural coastline depending on the tide, and backstage tours (subject to weather and animal availability). During summer and fireworks displays, the aquarium is open for extended hours, allowing visitors to enjoy the evening seascape and penguins together.
