The Koga Ninja House is the former residence of Mochizuki Izumo-no-kami, a Koga ninja, located in Konan-cho, Koka City, Shiga Prefecture. It has not been restored for tourism purposes, but is the original building that was built during the Genroku period (1688-1704), making it extremely valuable as the only genuine ninja house remaining in Japan. Inside the house, there are many ingenious devices to prevent enemy intrusion and hide yourself, such as twists and turns, pitfalls, and hidden staircases, and you can learn about the wisdom and ingenuity of the ninja while experiencing them for yourself.
The biggest attraction of the Koga Ninja House is the various mechanisms that the building itself has. For example, the "donden-gaeshi" (reversal) that at first glance look like ordinary sliding doors and walls can rotate when force is applied and disappear instantly. The "pitfall" that removes the floorboards is about 3 meters deep and is a mechanism to trap the enemy. In addition, there are many ingenious devices for escape and hiding, such as the "hidden staircase" leading from the mezzanine to the third floor and the "ninja window" that removes part of the lattice of the wall. These mechanisms were used mainly for defense and escape, not for attack, and can be said to be the crystallization of ninja wisdom and survival techniques.

Inside the house, ninja tools and books that are said to have been actually used by ninjas, such as shuriken and scrolls containing the secrets of ninjutsu, are also on display, allowing you to learn about the lives and techniques of ninjas at that time. In addition, you can sample "Kenpo-cha," a medicinal herbal tea used by ninjas, in honor of the Koga ninjas who are said to have also peddled medicines. Through these exhibits and experiences, you can gain a deeper understanding of the wisdom and ingenuity of real ninjas, and the historical background in which they lived, rather than the superhuman image of ninjas depicted on television and in movies.

The residence of Mochizuki Izumo no Kami was completed in the Genroku period after the Sengoku period, and it is clear that the wisdom of ninjas cultivated during the warring times was applied to his home in case of emergency. It is easily accessible by public transport, and is within walking distance of JR Konan Station, so it is easy to access. The Koga Ninja House is a unique tourist spot where history buffs and ninja fans, as well as children and adults, can enjoy learning about history and culture.
