These are the old streetscapes that remain in the castle town of Hagi.
This is the old town area remaining in the castle town of Hagi. The Horiuchi area in the Hagi Castle ruins area and the Kikuya Yokocho area on its east side have preserved the old townscape from the Edo to the Meiji period. The Kikuya Yokocho area includes the former residence of Shinsaku Takasugi, who was a central figure in the Meiji Restoration.
The Kikuya residence is the oldest townhouse in Hagi, representing the town and designated as an important cultural property. The site includes not only buildings but also gardens, artworks, and crafts that are displayed.
Other nearby attractions include the birthplace of Shinsaku Takasugi, a statue of him in his youth, and the Hagi Museum. There are also many shops selling Hagi-yaki pottery and other goods.
The address on the map is for the birthplace of Shinsaku Takasugi.
There are several parking lots available, but the basic rate for regular cars is 310 yen. There are also free parking lots near the coast and the castle, but it takes about 15 minutes to walk.
