Nishiawakura Village Wakasugi Natural Forest is a primeval forest of 83 hectares, with approximately 200 species of giant trees, including beech and horse chestnut, lined up in rows. It is a protected area of the Hyonosen-Ushiroyama-Nagisan Quasi-National Park, where fresh greenery and autumn foliage can be seen.
Wakasugi Natural Forest is located in the northernmost part of the village, in a special protected area within the Hyonosen-Ushiroyama-Nagisan Quasi-National Park. At an altitude of 950 to 1,180 meters, the forest is 83 hectares and is home to approximately 200 species of giant trees, including beech, maple, Japanese oak, and horse chestnut. It is a popular trekking spot that has been selected as one of the "Top 100 Forests for Forest Bathing in Japan."

There are many giant trees that are hundreds of years old, and waterfalls are scattered throughout the area, making it ideal for hiking and trekking while enjoying forest bathing.

The promenade is a circular course of approximately 4 km in length, suitable for a 2-3 hour hike. The scenery changes with the seasons, with fresh greenery in spring, cool babbling in summer, and colorful autumn leaves in autumn. Benches and information boards are installed along the way, making it a great place to observe plants and take photos.

[Trivia]
Wakasugi Natural Forest was the first forest in the Chugoku region to be selected as one of the "Top 100 Forests for Forest Bathing in Japan" in 1986. If the conditions are right, you can see the "carpet of light" phenomenon (sunlight filtering through the trees in the morning mist) that occurs when new leaves emerge.
Okayama Prefectural Forest Park in Kagamino-cho, Okayama Prefecture, has also been selected as one of the "Top 100 Forests for Forest Bathing in Japan."
