Hyogo Prefectural Museum of History is located on the north side of Himeji Castle.
The building was designed by modern architect Kenzo Tange.

The collection includes approximately 200,000 items from the Kofun period to modern times, and introduces a wide range of Hyogo Prefecture's history and culture.

The permanent exhibition is roughly divided into three areas: "Ancient/Middle Ages," "Early Modern/Modern," and "Contemporary."
