Ichinenzaka is a 100-meter slope that extends from the east gate of Kiyomizu-dera Temple to the bottom of Ninenzaka. Ninenzaka is a slope of about 200 meters that continues from the bottom of Ninenzaka to Sannenzaka.

It is said that "Ichinen" in Ichinenzaka was named from the wish for a safe and healthy child birth, and "Ninei" in Ninenzaka was named from the wish for a safe delivery.

Ichinenzaka and Ninenzaka are popular tourist spots where you can feel the atmosphere of Kyoto with its cobbled slopes. It is also known as the setting for Yumeji Takehisa's paintings and the movie "Gion Music", and many tourists from Japan and abroad visit here.
