Ginkgo Tree Line in Meiji Jingu Gaien: A magnificent 300-meter-long ginkgo tree line stretches from Aoyama-dori to the Museum of Art. In autumn, it creates a golden tunnel, making it a spectacular spot in the city center.
The ginkgo tree-lined street in Meiji Jingu Gaien is one of the most famous spots in Tokyo for viewing autumn leaves, with about 146 ginkgo trees planted in orderly fashion at intervals of about 9 meters. From mid-November to early December, the leaves turn a vibrant golden color, creating a beautiful landscape that looks as if the road leading to the Art Museum is covered in a golden carpet. The tree-lined street is designed with perspective in mind, with the tree height and road slope designed to show different expressions depending on the viewing angle.

During the peak viewing season, many tourists and photographers visit, captivated by the beauty. There are also cafes and restaurants around the street, where you can enjoy a meal or tea while looking at the golden ginkgo trees. It is a rare place where you can feel the richness of nature, even though it is in the center of the city, and is popular with people of all ages and genders.

The ginkgo tree-lined street shows various expressions throughout the year, but the overwhelming beauty of the yellow leaves is particularly impressive to visitors. It is a great spot for strolling and commemorative photos, and is loved as a seasonal feature of autumn in Tokyo.

The ginkgo tree-lined street is located close to Gaienmae or Aoyama-itchome on the Ginza subway line.

[Useful points of concern]
Meiji Jingu Gaien will begin redevelopment work in March 2023, and some facilities will be demolished and renovated. However, the ginkgo tree-lined street is a conservation target in the redevelopment plan and will not be cut down.
The ginkgo tree-lined street is partially obscured by the redevelopment work, but it can generally be seen even during construction. Although some trees are being cut down and construction work is being carried out due to the redevelopment project, the ginkgo tree-lined street is a conservation target and is lit up at night.
