It is a precious castle located in Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture, whose castle tower is designated as a national treasure. Other national treasure castle towers are Himeji Castle, Inuyama Castle, Hikone Castle, and Matsue Castle.
The castle tower is said to have been built around 1600.

Matsumoto Castle's most distinctive feature is its black and white stucco walls. Black plaster has the effect of making the castle difficult to see from enemies, and white plaster has the effect of giving the castle dignity. In addition, the castle tower has beautiful designs such as a plover gable and a corner turret.
