Nikko Toshogu

This is a shrine dedicated to Tosho Daigongen, who deified Tokugawa Ieyasu. Nikko Toshogu Shrine is a shrine and temple in Nikko that is also registered as a World Heritage Site.
It was founded in 1617 by the third shogun, Iemitsu Tokugawa.

Nikko Toshogu has 55 buildings, including 8 National Treasures and 34 Important Cultural Properties.

The greatest feature of Nikko Toshogu is its splendid carvings. In the precincts, there are many sculptures such as "Sleeping Cat" and "Three Wise Monkeys" designated as national treasures, and "Golden Hall" designated as an important cultural property.
