Located at the entrance to Oku-Nikko, it is one of the highest lakes in Japan at an altitude of 1,269 meters above sea level.
Lake Chuzenji is a lake dammed by the lava flow of Mt. Nantai, with a circumference of approximately 10 km and a maximum depth of 30 m. There are sightseeing spots on the lake, such as Lake Chuzenji Onsen and Ryuzu Falls, and you can also enjoy excursions on sightseeing boats and canoes.

The biggest feature of Lake Chuzenji is its transparency. The transparency of the lake water is up to 25 meters, so you can clearly see the sand and rocks at the bottom of the lake.

Another appeal of Lake Chuzenji is that you can enjoy the scenery of each season. The view of the mountains is beautiful, with fresh greenery in spring and mirror-like reflections of the lake in summer. In autumn, the lake is colored with autumn leaves, and in winter, you can see the surface of the lake freeze over.

The scenery from Lake Chuzenji Senjugahama is a great photo spot. It is especially famous for its autumn leaves.

If you want to see the whole of Lake Chuzenji from a little distance, we recommend the Hangetsuyama Observation Deck.

There are also pleasure boats and swan boats.
