Takayama Jinya played an important role as a political and administrative base in the Hida region during the Edo period. Magistrates and gundai were in charge of governing the Hida region, collecting annual taxes, maintaining peace and order, and conducting trials.

Takayama Jinya is a valuable building that conveys the architectural techniques of the Edo period. The main buildings, including the main building, front gate, and storehouse, still exist and have been designated as important cultural properties of the country.
