Onioshidashien is an expanse of strangely shaped rocks that were created by the lava flow from the great eruption of Mt. Asama in 783.
In 1783, Mt. Asama erupted for the first time in about 300 years, releasing a lava flow about 19 km long. Onioshidashien is a place where after the lava flow cooled and solidified, various strangely shaped rocks were formed through weathering and erosion.
