Kitano Tenmangu Shrine is located in Kamigyo Ward, Kyoto City, and is the head office of the approximately 12,000 Tenmangu shrines and Tenjin shrines nationwide. It was built in the first year of Tenryaku (947) and enshrines Michizane Sugawara as its deity.

This shrine is dedicated to Michizane Sugawara, known as the god of learning, and is visited by many students studying for entrance exams.

The magnificent main shrine is designated as a national treasure.
