Many giant trees stand in the precincts, including the "Ochi no Mikoto Oteue no Kusunoki" (Campus Tree Planted by Hand by Ochi no Mikoto), which is said to be about 2600 years old, and the shrine is enveloped in a sacred and solemn atmosphere. These camphor trees are designated as national natural monuments, and their overwhelming vitality deeply impresses visitors. Just walking along the approach to the shrine will give you a refreshing air and a spiritual cleansing experience.
It is one of the most powerful spots in Ehime Prefecture.
[Trivia]
The shrine sign of Oyamazumi Shrine (Oyamazumi Shrine, the Grand Shrine of Great Japan) was written by the first Prime Minister, Ito Hirobumi, in 1909 to commemorate his visit. In addition, the "Ikiki no Gomon" (Gate of Living Trees) in the shrine grounds is a naturally hollowed-out base of a camphor tree that is said to be 3,000 years old, and there is a legend that if you pass through it, you will live a long life.
[Hidden Spot]
The area around the site of the "Soreiden" (a shrine that was destroyed by fire in the past) behind the Treasure Museum is relatively quiet and you can take a quiet stroll. In addition, from the promenade to "Washigazumeyama" and "Yasugamiyama" a little way from the shrine grounds, you can see the whole view of Oyamazumi Shrine and the beauty of the Seto Inland Sea islands, and it is also known as a hidden spot for low mountain hikes.
