Enshrined at the "foundation site" where Emperor Jimmu, believed to be the first emperor, ascended to the throne, it is a sacred place where you can feel the beginnings of Japan.
Kashihara Shrine is a shrine that is attractive for its national treasure main hall and sacred treasures, as well as its abundant nature.
Tanzan Shrine is about 20 minutes by car on Prefectural Route 155.
[Trivia]
Kashihara Shrine was founded to commemorate the founding of Japan, so the "Kigensai" festival on February 11th every year is held with particular pomp. 2025 is the year of the snake, and jumbo votive plaques are also displayed. In addition, the grounds are dedicated with pebbles, and you can actually see the pebbles that appear in the lyrics of Japan's national anthem, Kimigayo.
[Hidden gem]
If you stroll through the vast grounds, you will find quiet sub-shrines such as Nagayama Inari Shrine, which is not often visited by people. Nagayama Inari Shrine, located on the banks of Fukada Pond, is said to bring good luck, protection from evil, bountiful harvests, prosperous business, and safety in the home. It is also the place where the Hatsuuma Festival is held, and you can worship in a calm atmosphere.
