Higashi Hongan-ji Temple (Shinshu Honbyo)

In 1602 AD, Tokugawa Ieyasu divided Hongwanji into east and west.
Higashi Honganji is a temple that inherits the teachings of Shinran Shonin, the founder of the Jodo Shinshu sect. Born in the Kamakura period, Shinran Shonin preached the way to get rid of worldly desires and be reborn in the Pure Land. Higashi Honganji is a temple visited by many people to spread the teachings of Shinran Shonin.

The current building was rebuilt in the Meiji period.
Higashi Honganji is located just north of Kyoto Station.
