Within the temple grounds is the Kondo Hall, a national treasure that was relocated from the Shishinden Hall of the Imperial Palace of Heian-kyo. This is the oldest Shishinden Hall still in existence, and its historical value is immeasurable. The five-story pagoda, which is about 31 meters high, was built in the early Edo period and is known as one of the most famous towers of the Edo period, along with the five-story pagoda of Toji Temple. The Omurogoten Palace is where Emperor Uda lived after he became a retired emperor. It has two gardens with different styles, the southern garden covered with white sand and the northern garden with a pond, centered around the Shinden Hall, and has been designated a national place of scenic beauty.
Ninna-ji Temple is known for its beauty not only in cherry blossom season, but also in autumn when the leaves change color. The contrast between the five-story pagoda and the autumn leaves is particularly special and attracts many people. Ninna-ji Temple is also the head school of the Omuro School of flower arranging, and you can experience this elegant culture within the temple grounds. Ninna-ji Temple, where history, culture, and abundant nature come together in harmony, is one of Kyoto's most representative temples, where you will always find something new no matter how many times you visit.
The grounds are generally free to enter.
