Wakayama Castle is the castle of the Kishu Tokugawa family, one of the three Tokugawa families in Wakayama City.
Wakayama Castle is built on Mt. Torafusu with an altitude of 48.9m, and the Kino River flowing in the north is used as a natural moat. It is a kaikaku-style flat mountain castle with a second enclosure on the north side of the main enclosure and a large third enclosure outside of it.

It was dismantled in the Meiji era and burned down in an air raid during World War II.
The current one is a reinforced concrete structure rebuilt in 1957.

It is certified as one of the 100 best castles in Japan.
