Located in Higashi-ku, Hiroshima City, this Buddhist temple was built during the Muromachi period and is a designated national treasure. It is a valuable cultural asset that escaped the damage of the atomic bomb, and you can feel the majestic beauty of its architecture and the weight of history.
Fudoin Kondo is located about 4km from the Atomic Bomb Dome and is a precious National Treasure building that miraculously escaped the fires of war. It is said to have been built in 1540 during the late Muromachi period by Mori Takamoto, a senior vassal of the Mori clan. The entire main hall is designated as a National Treasure, and its unique architectural style, which combines the strength of Zen Buddhism with Japanese and Daibutsu styles, is overwhelming to behold. In particular, the construction of the interior joinery and ceiling is magnificent, conveying the advanced woodworking techniques of the time to the present day.

Inside the Kondo, a seated statue of Acala, designated as an Important Cultural Property, is enshrined, and its powerful appearance leaves a strong impression on visitors. The hall is dimly lit and enveloped in a solemn atmosphere, allowing you to quietly place your hands together and feel the weight of history. There are other historical buildings scattered around the temple grounds, such as a bell tower and sutra repository, allowing you to experience traditional Japanese beauty while strolling around.

The tower gate and bell tower are also designated as Important Cultural Properties.

The parking lot is a little hard to find, but it's located at the back to the left of the gate.

A 10-15 minute drive away is Mitaki-dera Temple, a famous spot for viewing autumn leaves and a spectacular sight of countless stone Buddha statues.
