The Sakurai Family Residence was the residence of the head of an iron mining business in the late Edo period, and is designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. You can experience firsthand the lifestyle of those times and the history of ironworking.
The Sakurai Family Residence is the vast mansion of the Sakurai family, who prospered as ironworkers by producing tatara iron in this area from the Edo period to the Meiji period. It has been designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan, and its size and the high level of architectural technology at the time are remarkable. In particular, the magnificent structure that combines the main house, shoin, teahouse, and storehouse speaks of the ironworkers' wealth and high level of culture.

Inside the mansion, the living space of the time and valuable materials related to tatara ironworking are on display, and you can learn about the history of the Japanese iron industry and the prosperity of the Sakurai family. The vast garden, which shows its beauty in every season, is also a must-see, and the well-maintained pond and plantings give visitors a sense of peace. In particular, in the autumn foliage season, the trees in the garden take on vivid colors and are breathtakingly beautiful.

On the premises, there is Seichoan, which is open only on weekends and has a warigo soba restaurant.
