Famous as one of the leading hydrangea temples in western Japan, this ancient temple where hydrangeas bloom in full glory was built as a Suo-bessho temple of Todaiji Temple in 1187. It is a soothing space where the natural beauty of the four seasons and history come together in harmony.
Amidaji Temple has a long history, and is said to have been founded by Zen master Eisai during the Kamakura period.

It is a Shingon Buddhist temple known as one of the best places in western Japan to see hydrangeas. Every year around June, the temple grounds are filled with 4,000 colorful hydrangeas of about 80 varieties, captivating visitors. The hydrangeas that shine during the humid rainy season are especially beautiful, and the scenery is truly worthy of the name "hydrangea temple." The contrast between the historic buildings such as the main hall and the pagoda and the hydrangeas is moving to viewers.

The treasure hall houses a number of important cultural properties, including the national treasure, the iron pagoda.
