Nakayama Shrine is a prestigious shrine that has been revered since ancient times as the Ichinomiya of Mimasaka Province. The main deity is Ishikoridome no Mikoto, the god of mirror making, and it is said that the shrine has benefits especially in manufacturing and technology.

The grounds are surrounded by deep forests and have a sacred atmosphere with pure air. The most noteworthy part is the main hall, which was built in 1559 and is designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan.

The sacred tree, the Meoto Sugi, is two cedar trees that stand close together as their name suggests, and are said to bring good luck in matchmaking and marital harmony. Looking up from the base of the tree, you can feel its size and vitality even more.

At the back of the shrine is Sarujinja Shrine.

There is parking for a few cars next to the torii gate, and a large parking lot is located up the slope next to the torii gate.
