Hiraoka Shrine is the Ichinomiya of Kawachi Province, located at the foot of Mt. Ikoma. It is an ancient shrine that dates back to the age of mythology, and is a power spot known for warding off evil and granting safety to the home, enshrining the gods that were there at the time of its founding.
Hiraoka Shrine is believed to have already existed in the Nara period, and from the end of the Heian period it came to be revered as the Ichinomiya of Kawachi Province. Many emperors and members of the imperial family have visited the shrine, and it is recorded that Minamoto no Yoritomo visited the shrine during the Kamakura period, and Ashikaga Takauji visited the shrine during the Muromachi period.

The grounds are surrounded by the rich nature of the Ikoma mountain range, and you can enjoy beautiful scenery in every season. In particular, the autumn leaves are beautiful, and the shrine is crowded with many worshippers and photographers. The approach to the shrine is lined with magnificent torii gates, and the deeper you go, the more sacred the atmosphere becomes. The main hall is built in a unique architectural style called "Kasuga-zukuri," and its vivid vermilion paint is eye-catching.

Hiraoka Shrine is affectionately known to locals as "Hiraoka-san," and various religious ceremonies and festivals are held there throughout the year. In particular, the autumn festival "Hiraoka Festival" held in October is a brave festival where one of the largest taiko floats (futon taiko) in Osaka Prefecture is dedicated, and it is crowded with many spectators.

[Trivia]
Hiraoka Shrine is the original shrine of Kasuga Taisha Shrine in Nara, and it is said that the gods of Kasuga Taisha Shrine were separated from here. For that reason, the main hall of Hiraoka Shrine is built in the same "Kasuga-zukuri" architectural style as Kasuga Taisha Shrine.
In addition, the taiko float dedicated at the autumn festival "Hiraoka Festival" is also called "futon taiko" because of its splendor and bravery, and it is a festival where you can feel the passion of the local people.
