The Shimizudani Smelter Site, which remains in the Iwami Ginzan area, is located in Oda City, Shimane Prefecture, and is the remains of the Iwami Ginzan smelter built in 1895. Beautiful stone walls remain.
The quality of the ore was worse than expected, and the smelter was closed after a year and a half.

The Shimizudani Smelter Site is a Meiji-era structure that took advantage of the slope of the mountain and introduced cutting-edge technology to separate silver from silver ore. The moss-covered brick chimneys and blast furnace foundations speak of the majestic scale of the site at the time.

The Shimizudani Smelter Site was built using the most cutting-edge technology of the time, and is one of the constituent assets of the Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine, a World Heritage Site.
