A zoo rich in nature at the foot of Nihon-daira in Shizuoka City. You can observe the ecology of animals up close and enjoy a variety of interaction experiences. It can be enjoyed by both children and adults.
Nihon-daira Zoo is a vast zoo located at the foot of Nihon-daira in Suruga Ward, Shizuoka City. It is home to about 700 animals (heads, animals, and feathers) of about 160 species, and has been designed to minimize the number of cages and fences, allowing visitors to observe the animals in their natural state up close. In particular, in the "Wild Animal House 299 (Paws)," which makes use of the difference in elevation, you can observe large carnivorous animals such as lions, tigers, and polar bears through glass in a powerful manner. Other animals kept at the zoo include large animals such as elephants, giraffes, and rhinos, as well as red pandas, monkeys, bears, and orangutans.

The zoo focuses on displaying animals in a way that makes the most of their ecology, and is devised to bring out the animals' natural abilities and behaviors. For example, artificial rocks with different heights are placed in the 8-meter-high enclosure to allow the puma's high jumping ability to be utilized, creating an environment where the animals can live comfortably. They also play an important role in raising and breeding red pandas, and are responsible for registering the pedigrees of red pandas in Japan.

There are also many animal interaction events, and visitors have many opportunities to interact with the animals, such as feeding them and interacting with small animals. The spacious zoo is dotted with play equipment and rest areas, making it a facility that families can enjoy all day.
