Nihon-daira Zoo is a vast zoo located at the foot of Nihon-daira in Suruga Ward, Shizuoka City. It is home to about 700 animals (heads, animals, and feathers) of about 160 species, and has been designed to minimize the number of cages and fences, allowing visitors to observe the animals in their natural state up close. They also play an important role in raising and breeding red pandas, and are responsible for registering the pedigrees of red pandas in Japan.
